- Ensure the correct height for the job
- Good grip with 3 points of contact
- Use a stand-off so that the ladder is not resting on gutters
- Wear flat shoes
- Ensure the steps are clean
- Ladders overlap the landing point by at least 3 rungs
- Ladder checks are carried out and in good condition
- Use someone to foot the ladder or tie down
- Extension ladders should be at a 1-4 angle
- Ensure firm level ground
General course information
This course is to ensure all delegates are competent to: Assess and determine when it’s appropriate to use a ladder or stepladder and correctly locate and safely use ladders & stepladders.

- Safe use of ladders, stepladders (as applicable)
- Theoretical and Practical testing
