Level 1 Mental Health First Aid (half day course)

General course information

This course is aimed at providing delegates with the knowledge and skills to start a supportive conversation, reduce stigma and be able to signpost the person towards professional help.

Course content

  • Course Introduction
  • Defining mental health
  • Understanding the stigma surrounding mental health
  • Identify factors that can affect a person’s mental health
  • Understand the role of a first aider for mental health
  • Outline the advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition
  • Know when to contact emergency services
  • Identify signs of stress
  • State how stress can be managed
  • Identify signs and symptoms from the following mental health conditions, depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide and self-harm

No prior knowledge of topic required.

Level 2 Mental Health First Aid (full day course)

General course information

This course is aimed at providing delegates with the knowledge and skills to start a supportive conversation, reduce stigma and be able to signpost the person towards professional help.  Delegates will also learn how to recognize and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse.  They will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

  • Understanding the stigma surrounding mental health
  • Identify factors that can affect a person’s mental health
  • Understand the role of a first aider for mental health
  • Outline the advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition
  • Know when to contact the emergency services
  • Identify signs of stress and how stress can be managed
  • Effects of alcohol and drug abuse on a person’s mental health
  • Key factors in providing a positive mental health culture in the workplace
  • Hot to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
